Our History
Described as “entertaining, hilarious, and often irreverent,” Bar None is an annual variety show sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association and Dallas Bar Foundation. Written, directed, and performed by Dallas-area attorneys, judges, paralegals, legal secretaries, law clerks, and others in the legal community, Bar None officially celebrates its 40th year in 2026 (with a few COVID years in between).
Since its debut performance in 1986, Bar None has raised well in excess of $3,000,000 for the Sarah T. Hughes Scholarships at SMU’s Dedman School of Law, UNT Dallas College of Law, and Texas A&M School of Law. In recognition of Bar None’s efforts, Legal Services of North Texas presented the 2000 Equal Access to Justice Award to the Dallas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Association and the Bar None Production Company.
Directed by Martha Hardwick Hofmeister (the only director the show has ever had) and produced by Tom Mighell, Bar None runs for four nights in mid-June at the Greer Garson Theatre on the SMU campus. We welcome support of the event and the Sarah T. Hughes Scholarship through various sponsorship levels (ranging from $150 to $10,000), advertising in the show’s hilarious program, in-kind donations, performance ticket purchases, and t-shirt sales.
